Laboratorians: The Ultimate Team Players in

Patient Care

Spring is just around the corner (hopefully!) and so is this year’s Clinical Laboratory Collaborative.  From May 14th-16th, laboratorians from across the state will gather at the Crowne Plaza in St. Paul to network, attend CE sessions, and have fun!  Because we are all a part of the health care team, this year’s theme is “Laboratorians:  The Ultimate Team Players in Patient Care.”  The exhibit hall, with vendors from every area of the lab imaginable, will be open all three days of the meeting to make sure everyone has a chance to check out what is new.  In addition, on Thursday and Friday, we will have interactive sessions with the vendors in the exhibit hall dubbed “Spring Training.”  These sessions are designed to give participants an in depth view of instruments and software by vendor “coaches” all while attaining CE credit.  Space is limited, so we ask that you sign up when filling out your registration form.

The social event is on a new night this year, Wednesday May 14th.  The Twins are playing the Toronto Blue Jays so the laboratory team is going to cheer on the home team.  Just $33 gets you a lower reserved ticket and $10 in dome dollars for purchasing food and beverage.  Free bus transportation to and from the Crowne Plaza will be provided.  Please sign up when filling out your registration form to ensure you have a ticket!

The CLC is also going green.  There will be no handouts provided at the meeting, however you may go online to www.asclsmn.org after May 1st to print presentations for the sessions you plan to attend.  Presentations will also be available for download after the meeting in case you  attend a different session.

The planning committee sincerely hopes to see you at this year’s meeting!  Please contact Christine Williams Christine.williams@allina.com if you have any questions.

Area I has been busy in 2008! In January, two web conferences were held at St. Cloud Hospital on “How Can the Newest CLSI Documents Help You” and “The 2008 CLSI Standard for Antimicrobial Testing”.  An in-service on Plasma Exchange was also held. An ASCLS-MN sponsored educational event was held on Thursday, March 13 at the CentraCare Health Plaza.  The topics were "Peripheral Smear - What's the Point?" and "DNA probe assay detecting 3 vaginitis pathogens".  Forty four laboratorians from the area attended the workshop.

In celebration of Lab Week, Area I will be hosting a workshop for laboratory professionals entitled A Day of Professional Development XIV on April 23rd at the Douglas County Hospital.  For more information on this event, please visit the ASCLS-MN Calendar of Events page.
