Beginnings

The first day of spring has come and gone and we are all finding
ourselves more than ready for the snow to disappear and the green
to start peeking through.  This is the time of  year where things in
 ASCLS-MN get exciting.

Lab week is right around the corner, we have some great events coming up in each of the areas, and everyone is excited for the Spring CLC meeting that is coming up in May at the Crowne Plaza in St Paul.  ASCLS-MN as always is very involved in the meeting planning and event structure.  We also had 3 delegates attend a very successful Legislative Days March 17th and 18th in Washington DC.  Those delegates, JoAnn Nickles Denise Miller, and Dan Raczynski, our student representative, reported back with great success on competitive bidding as well as other important issues.

One of the biggest projects that has been moving forward for ASCLS-MN is the area expansion.  We have identified and defined the boundaries of each of the seven new areas.  We have put together a bylaw

change that was voted on and passed at our winter board meeting.  This bylaw change will be posted on the website at www.asclsmn.org so that you can check it out for yourself. The next steps for the new area expansion to be official are to submit the bylaw change to national and once we get approval vote on it at the spring meeting in May.

Now we are coming into the home stretch as we seek to engage strong candidates to be on the ballot as Sr. and Jr. Directors for each of the new areas. These director positions are a great way to get involved and make a difference in our organization so if you would like to please contact myself or anyone on the board.  You can find all of our contact info on the website as well. It is exciting that with these new areas we will be able to provide more valuable continuing education and peer group interaction to more locations within our state.

I am sure that you have noticed the big changes to our website.  A huge congratulation goes out to our Communication Committee for all of their hard work and creative ideas!

Just one visit to the web site and you will see the exciting new resource that they have created and how it really brings ASCLS-MN alive with  information right at your fingertips.  Of course this article will be in the first electronic version of our new newsletter so your will already have seen the fun new look and name.

There is one other important thing that I would like to get you involved in.  We are having a big push to invite new members to discover and join ASCLS-MN.  We all know the benefits that our organization provides and we know that the value comes from our members. It comes from each person’s willingness to teach and support and work together for each other. Take some time to celebrate spring by making someone new aware of the new growth and new opportunities available to them through ASCLS-MN. Share with them how your life and profession have been enhanced and invite them to join with us.

So I want to wish each of you a HAPPY SPRING and exciting new beginnings in ASCLS-MN!
